"You cannot be a baby all your life!"

I was challenged recently when I read this sermon from Tozer, and decided to proffer some excerpts from it so you can share my pain:) I have tried to capture that which cut me to the heart as accurately as possible...

“I am of the opinion that we cannot experience that which we have not believed. This is the reason why many Christians remain about where they are – day after day, week after week, year after year.

God will speak to us if we read and study and obey the Word of God. But, when He does speak, we should speak back to Him in prayer and devotion.

The word “mediocre” comes from two Latin words, and literally means “halfway to the peak”. This makes it an apt description of the progress of many Christians. They are halfway up the peak. They are not halfway to heaven, but halfway up to where they ought to be, halfway between the valley and the peak. They are morally above the hardened sinner but they are spiritually beneath the shining saint.”

Some piercing questions:

Are you settling for far less than that which God is waiting and wanting to give you?

- We honour and please Him by going on to full maturity in Christ.

- The devoted and committed person who takes the cross and follows the Lord does not ask what the consequences will be, neither does he offer arguments about God's plan and wisdom.

Will it be safe?

- This question is a result of our constant bleating about “security” and our everlasting desire for safety above all else.

Will it be convenient?

- The truth is that every advance that we make for God and for His cause must be made at our inconvenience. It’s been said that we can only truly be a blessing if we are willing for it to cost us something.

Will it be fun?

- This world is a battleground, not a playground.

- The Christian who asks such a question regarding spiritual advance will never be anything but a mediocre Christian.

God is prepared to start with you where you are.... Are you willing to let Him have His will, His way? This truly is the secret to fulfillment and happiness.
