The subject or topic?  The   T W E N T Y - T E N   Soccer World Cup!!

Yes, it is about being South African and being here, now, at a time like this.  This is what we call an OPPORTUNITY!  It is an instrument or tool we have in our hands.  What are we to do with it?

People always like to believe that they portray an image or convey a message.  And now we have an excellent opportunity to do this, while thousands and thousands of people are looking on.  It’s not difficult to get people’s attention now.  There is already a great awareness among people.  We are all looking around in anticipation to see how the country is preparing itself for this event.

Although the visiting tourists and foreigners will also be observing what goes on in our country, let’s forget about them for a while.  Let’s even forget about the rest of SA, and let’s tune into Pretoria, Die Jakarandastad.  This is where we find ourselves, not?

And that was rugby.  Now we have much much more opportunity for reconciliation and unity, on our doorsteps.  Should we bring colour and race into this?  It is already there, we need to continue erasing it.  In our country soccer has predominantly been a “black” sport and an English sport.

So, wat maak ons wit (Suid-)Afrikaners nou met dié geleentheid?

Let’s catch the Gees.  This is the time for us, as body of believers, to take hands with others / strangers in our streets.  No need to start idolising sport, and certainly not Bafana Bafana, but – let’s support and get behind our National team and country.  Let’s speak positively, participate and make this event work.

It is quite heart-warming and humbling to experience the responses and reactions of others when they notice a whitey (and nogal a woman) wearing a Bafana shirt on Football Fridays, as if unbelievable.

Let the banner of Christ fly high.  Laat die SA vlaggies wapper.  Blow those Vuvuzellas.

May Jesus be glorified!
