Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.” - Emilie Buchwald

Do you remember your parents reading to you? Snuggling up on dad or mom’s lap? Playing snakes and ladders with your brother?  Fighting over a game of Monopoly? Piecing together the elephant’s trunk and body in your favourite puzzle?

There are children who have never had these experiences. Why not give up some of your time to spend it with the children in these two orphanages, and give them some lifelong memories?

We would like a team of volunteers (all ages welcome) to visit the Ebenezer House of Hope and Tshwaraganang Orphanage, both based in Hammanskraal, at least once a month as part of a reading project. The children range in age from babies to 18 year olds. At each visit, we’ll allocate not more than three children to each volunteer. You’d then spend up to an hour reading to the children, having them read to you, playing board and card games and doing puzzles together. You could also sing songs with your children, and we w’d definitely like to encourage the children to pray for each other.
